This blog was requested by my wife.

As most of you know she was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer 2 years ago. Chemo, radiation and surgery to remove her esophagus and 1/3 her stomach, would kill most people but not her!

She has a exceedingly rare quality in today’s world. She uses it everyday in her job helping customers at Trader Joe’s and is using it as the newest Board member of the Esophageal Cancer Action Network.

Her quality is caring for others before she cares about herself. That drive to help others is what keeps her alive and on a mission to educate others that heartburn and acid reflux cause cancer and will kill you unless you get scoped and treated early.

She has set a goal to raise $25,000 this year and $10,000 of that the next 7 days. She was on Milwaukee’s TMJ 4 TV Morning Blend Friday April 22 to kick off her fund raising campaign.

All I can do is ask this one question:

Dear Family and Friends,

I want to tell you about a great opportunity to turn one dollar into two and save lives at the same time! I recently accepted the challenge to raise funds to support ECAN, the Esophageal Cancer Action Network during April which is Esophageal Cancer Awareness Month.

What makes me so excited about this challenge is that a generous survivor of EC has pledged to match every donation we receive in April up to $25,000! Think about it – that means it’s possible that a total of $50,000 will be available for this important fight against Esophageal Cancer.

ECAN is the only national advocacy organization fighting this disease that is the fastest increasing cancer diagnosis among American men – up more than 600% in the past 35 years. The devastating cancer kills most people it strikes because it’s usually found at late stages. The most shocking thing about it – the kind of Esophageal Cancer most common in the U.S. is usually caused by Acid Reflux or Heartburn.

The money we raise in April can fuel ECAN’s efforts to get warning labels placed on anti-reflux medications so that people at risk for this cancer can find out and get checked before it is too late.
